A Camera Nerd’s Journey:
Once upon a time in the early 1990s, I began my journey as a budding filmmaker using an RCA Video camcorder rented from Sears. This humble beginning, capturing family holidays and birthdays, laid the foundation for my lifelong passion. As the years passed and technology evolved, I embraced Sony Handycams, which allowed me to produce my first short film, Doctor Reeking Burger, in the late 1990s.
Entering the new millennium, I seized the opportunity to harness affordable home computers and non-linear video editing software. This shift led me to paid work, producing videos for individuals and small businesses. In pursuit of further growth, I attended Full Sail University from 2007 to 2008, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Film Production and gaining hands-on experience with professional cameras.
In 2009, I took the leap and started my own production company under an LLC, shooting with Canon HDSLRs. From 2010 to 2013, I honed my skills as a production assistant, grip, and lighting technician, collaborating on various projects. By 2013, I became the video director for the This Week in Startups podcast, mastering deliverable deadlines and rapid editing techniques.
In 2015, my career progressed as I took on the role of Chief Video Officer at a marketing agency, utilizing the Canon C300. Four years later, I co-founded a software startup, capturing engaging vlog content with Panasonic Lumix GH4 and GH5 cameras.
My personal journey led me to Michigan and France in 2020, where I documented my experiences using a Panasonic Lumix GH5s. In 2021, I welcomed a new chapter in Miami, starting a family and exploring the world of film photography with a Canon Rebel 35mm.
By 2022, I was raising a baby and settling in Redington Beach, Florida. Embracing new technology, I transitioned to a Pentax K1000 and Blackmagic Cinema Cameras. My career had evolved dramatically since those early days with an RCA camcorder, yet my passion for storytelling and capturing life's moments remained unwavering.
